gadgets, not $50

After using the iPhone for a while, I start to wonder why all interfaces don’t behave in the same way– especially because I work on my Mac workstation. Being able to gesture with your finger tips to zoom in or scroll an image seems like the only way to work. It seems as if the folks over at tablet maker Wacom have been having the same thoughts. Recently announced, Wacom’s entry level line of tablets, Bamboo Pen & Touch, has been updated to take advantage of finger tip navigation.

With Multi-Touch, you use simple hand gestures and finger taps on the tablet’s surface. And because the active area is larger than traditional mobile devices and laptop trackpads, it’s comfortable and natural to use. Easily move around your desktop, scroll through documents, navigate the web, zoom in and out of photos, and rotate images.

The Bamboo attaches to a standard USB port. You can set it comfortably by your keyboard or your lap. The pressure sensitivity, along with rotational input, allow you to vary your paint strokes to achieve more natural strokes akin to traditional painting. It will take about a few hours before you will get comfortable with the stylus and tablet. Saving your wrists from carpal tunnel syndrome is worth a hours right? If you know someone who paints, draws or retouches digital images for fun or professionally, pick up the Bamboo Pen & Touch as a gift. I bought one because when I’m on the road, it makes a good travel companion to my Mac laptop.
